The match between Bayern Munich and Besiktas, on March 14, was halted mid-way as a notorious cat invaded the field. The play was suspended during the second-leg match at the UEFA Champions League in the second half. The incident happened when the German football club was already leading by two goals.

In a fun poll conducted by the German Football club, Bayern Munich, on its Twitter account, the ‘cat’ was adjudged as the player of the match. Also featuring in the poll were players Thiago, Wagner, and Muller. It seems the fans and people on the internet enjoyed the brief pause in the game caused by the cat, as she was the clear winner in the four-way poll.

It came as a surprise as to how could a cat breach the eyes of match officials and security guards deployed during the game. The match was briefly stopped, for few seconds, during the 50th minute of the match. The match between the two sides was in full flow when the referee, Michael Oliver, decided to allow the cat to wander on the sidelines of the football field.

The city-street cat did stroll along the corner-side of the football ground before she successfully tried to jump over the advertisements boards placed. It was a fun moment in a tense clash in Istanbul.

Watch how the cat stops a UEFA Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Besiktas:

We have seen it happening on a cricket ground, basketball court and even on the football field. Sometimes, people from audiences have invaded the pitch; at times even club managers and owners have also crossed the line and interrupted the course of the play. Recently, a Greek Football Club owner invaded the football pitch in the match between PAOK Salonika and AEK Athens, with a gun strapped to his waist. The match had to be suspended after the incident.

However, Bayern Munich won their match against Besiktas with the final score-line reading 3-1 in their favour. The German football club entered the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with an aggregate score of 8-1 over the Turkish Football Club.
