Looks like the Indian athletes are having a gala time these days setting new benchmarks for themselves. A few days ago, it was Hima Das who won a gold medal during the World Juniors and today it was Indian’s star sprinter Mohammed Anas Yahiya who once again made the nation proud. On Saturday shattered his own record of 45.31Ā which was set during the Commonwealth Games. Anas won against Cena Noveho Mesta nad Metuji meet in the Czech Republic in 45.24.

Shortly after his victory, the Athletics Federation of India posted a congratulatory tweet for Anas. The tweet read, ā€œCongrats Mohd. ANAS for breaking his own 400m #Indian record in #Czech Rep. New Record-45.24s, Previous Best-45.31s Congrats coach Galina Bukharina for success of #HimaDas and #Anas!.ā€

India’s sprinter MR Poovamma won the women's 400m in 53.01 seconds. Whereas, Rajiv Arokia came third in the men's 200m event with a time of 20.77 seconds. Three months back, Anas scripted history by becoming the second athlete to make it to the finals of one-lap event at the quadrennial Games in Gold Coast. Legendary sprinter Milkha Singh won a gold medal in Cardiff back in 1958.

Anas, however, failed to get a bronze medal at the mega event by a whisker as he finished fourth at the event. Jamaica's Javon Francis bagged the bronze medal after he finished third clocking 45.11 seconds. Botswana's Isaac Makwala finished the fastest and bagged the gold medal. Last year, Anas won the gold medal at Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar, clocking 45.77 seconds.
