Sri Lanka will be high on confidence when they face Australia in the three-match T20I series, starting October 24. The Lankans, who travelled to Pakistan with a second-string team, made the visit to Pakistan for the nation’s first-ever international cricket series in 10 years without many of their first-team stars. But the inexperienced and young team thrashed the hosts 3-0 to achieve Sri Lanka’s first-ever T20I clean-sweep over Pakistan on their own soil. The Tour to Australia, which will commence on October 24, will, however, see the return of many first-team players that had stepped out of the Pakistan series.
For Australia, the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka will be the start of six-consecutive Twenty20 International matches. The Aaron Finch-led side will hosts Pakistan and Sri Lanka in back-to-back three-match T20I series. This will also be Australia’s first Twenty20 international series since the 2-1 victory over India away from home before the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Their last T20I series at home was also against India – the three-match series ended 1-1, with one match producing no result.

The three-match series from October 24 to November 1, 2019, will be a great preparation for both teams for the upcoming 2020 T20I World Cup. The Twenty20 World Cup in 2020 will be held in Australia exactly a year later with Australia facing Pakistan in the first match of the Super 12 stage in T20I World Cup, 2020. Sri Lanka, on the other, will have to go through the group stage along with five other teams, including Bangladesh, to progress to the Super 12 stage.
