Mayank Agarwal Registers His 4th Test Fifty As The Hosts Cross the 100-Run Mark in 2nd India vs South Africa Test 2019

Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has continued his stellar performance from the first Test and has registered his 4th Test fifty. The batsman display great temperament against the fiery deliveries of Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander and paced his innings to perfection. The dismissal of Rohit Sharma (14) didn’t affect the batsman much and he played most deliveries at its merit. The Day 1 Pune pitch had some purchase for the fast bowlers which made this more crucial. After the ouster of Rohit, Agarwal shook hands with Cheteshwar Pujara and stitched a formidable partnership. In the first match of the series at Visakhapatnam, Mayank tormented the visitors and notched up his maiden double ton in Test cricket. This was also the first instance when he reached the three-figure mark in the longest format of the game. Agarwal’s splendid innings guided the hosts to a massive score of 502 in the first innings which proved to be enough as Indian clinched the match by 203 runs on Day 5 of the Test. The batsman is still going strong after completing his fifty and will aim to convert it into another big score.

Earlier in the match, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Umesh Yadav replaced Hanuma Vihari in the Indian side while for South Africa, Pacer Anrich Nortje came in for Dane Piedt. The hosts have made a decent start to their innings as they have crossed the 100-run mark in the second session. So, Virat Kohli will want to capitalize on the start and pile a mammoth first innings score. While the opposition will want to make a comeback and bundle out the Indians as soon as possible.
