Rishabh Pant endured another disappointing outing in Twenty20 Internationals for India. The young left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, who was picked in the playing XI ahead of the recalled Sanju Samson, was heavily trolled on social media after another flop performance in the 1st T20I against Bangladesh at Delhi. Pant, 22, wad first trolled for his involvement in the running-out of Shikhar Dhawan and then was against roasted after taking a poor review during the Bangladesh innings. It was Pant’s indecision that cost a “well-set” Dhawan his wicket during India’s innings. Dhawan was looking good for a big score before his dismissal. Later Pant was again on the headlines after persuading captain Rohit Sharma to take a review for a caught behind appeal despite replays showing that there was a clear gap between the bat and ball. India Vs Bangladesh, Live Cricket Score 1st T20I Match.

Twice in the over appeals for an LBW was not given and then in the final delivery of the over, Rohit took the review, not for an LBW appeal but a caught behind. Replays, however, showed that the ball had missed the inside edge and India lost their only review. Social media immediately picked Pant for missing the right appeals and then persuading the captain to take review on a wrong one.

Pant was pretty off with the bat against Bangladesh scoring run-a-ball 27 before being caught at boundary while attempting a glory shot in the 19th over of India’s innings. The 22-year-old could only hit three boundaries during his 26-ball stay at the crease but was involved in Dhawan’s run-out that left the legendary Sunil Gavaskar fumed on air. “Rishabh Pant sold a well set Dhawan down the river,” said Gavaskar on commentary with netizens also joining him in calling out Pant. His mid-pitch confusion with Dhawan – while attempting a second run – resulted in the latter getting run-out just nine runs short of his 10th half-century.
