A tragic high-speed chase in Ohio has led to serious criminal charges against an Indian national, highlighting concerns around road safety and immigration enforcement in the United States. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that an immigration detainer has been placed on Tarsem Singh, who is accused of causing a fatal crash that killed a pregnant 17-year-old girl and her unborn child.
According to officials, Singh has been indicted on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and reckless homicide. He is currently being held on a USD 1 million bond, while U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer to ensure he remains in custody. Who Is KP George? The incident occurred on February 16 in Darke County, when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop an SUV reportedly traveling about 25 mph over the speed limit. Authorities say the vehicle, allegedly driven by Singh, accelerated to speeds exceeding 120 mph during a pursuit that lasted less than three minutes. The chase ended in a devastating crash when the SUV collided with another vehicle on a curve. The victim, identified as 17-year-old Ashlee Holmes, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. She was pregnant at the time, and her unborn child also did not survive. Singh was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital, while the driver of the other vehicle was injured and taken to Reid Hospital.
DHS officials strongly condemned the incident. “This is yet another tragic reminder of why illegal aliens should not be driving cars on America’s roads,” said DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “A 17-year-old woman and her unborn child are now dead as a result of this illegal alien’s reckless actions.”
Authorities stated that Singh allegedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2017 through California and was later released on bond. Officials emphasized that the ICE detainer is intended to ensure he is “never released and allowed back behind the wheel to put more innocent lives at risk.”
