Bihar Assembly Election 2020: Mahagathbandhan Finalises Seat Sharing; RJD Bags 144, Cong 70, Left 29

The Mahagathbandhan or Grand Alliance in Bihar has finally settled the rift over seat sharing among the alliance partners with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) bagging 144 seats and Tejashwi Yadav being declared as the Chief Minister face of the Mahagathbandhan. As per the seat sharing agreement which was announced at a press conference on October 3 in Patna, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said his party would accommodate the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) from its quota of 144 seats. The key gainer in the seat sharing talks has been the Congress, which had stepped up pressure on the RJD for the last few days demanding 75 seats to contest the assembly election. Congress seems to have had its way as the party has been given 70 seats along with the Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha seat where it will field its candidate for the by-elections, the highest number of seats it is contesting in the 243-member assembly since 2010. Under the seat-sharing agreement, CPM will be fielding candidates on four seats, the CPI on six seats and the CPI (ML) on 19 seats. The Bihar Legislative Assembly Elections 2020 will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and 7. The counting of votes and the results will be declared on November 10.
