Gopal Krishna Gokhale Jayanti is celebrated annually in India on May 9. This day marks the birth anniversary of Gopal Krishna Gokhale. He was an Indian political leader and social reformer and the political mentor of Indian freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi. He was born on May 9, 1866, in a Chitpavan Brahmin family of the British Raj in Kotluk village of Guhagar taluka in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.
