Rohit Sharma has bid Test adieu and has retired from the format, having represented the country in whites between 2013 and 2025. Sharma started his career with a bang, hitting an impressive ton on debut against the West Indies in 2013. However, the batter could not maintain a permanent place in the XI and displayed inconsistency in his scores. With Sharma moving to the opening slot under Virat Kohli's leadership in 2019, the batter successfully transitioned from a lower-order batter to an opener, which saw the rise of the Mumbai player in the format. Sharma overtook Kohli's captaincy and guided India to impressive wins at home and away, which culminated in an appearance in the WTC 2021-23 Final for India. A poor BGT 2024-25 and lack of form and fitness saw Sharma contemplate his career in red-ball cricket, and on May 7th 2025, India's Test captain announced his retirement from the format. Sharma featured in 67 Tests, scoring 4301 runs with 12 tons and 18 fifties while claiming two wickets. As a captain, Sharma led India 24 times, coming out victorious on 12 occasions, losing nine, and drawing three.
