Hong Kong, August 31: Hong Kong student activist Joshua Wong on Saturday slammed Chinese daily Global times for spreading fake news about his arrest. Wong took to twitter to lash out at the Chinese tabloid. He claimed that he was not arrested in the protest which was held earlier in the day. In his tweet, he said asked the media house not to identify every young man with an eyeglass and short hair as Joshua Wong. Hundreds of Pro-Democracy Protesters Stage New Rally at Hong Kong Airport.

He tweeted, “Hi @globaltimesnews  Global Times, please don't spread fake news even you are owned and funded by Communist Party of China. I was not arrested during today protest. The Hong Kong activist was released by Chinese authorities on August 30, two months after his arrest. He said that he is expecting to get arrested and prosecuted again.

Earlier in the day, demonstrators who were protesting against government plans to allow extraditions to China, threw petrol bombs at riot police and attacked the parliament building, reported BBC News. The protesters came out in large numbers wearing black T-shirts. Police fired water cannon and tear gas at Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters. Meanwhile, on Friday several pro-democracy activists and lawmakers were arrested.
