Noida (UP), Apr 18 (PTI) Over 1.24 lakh litres of beer worth Rs 3 crore kept at a government godown in Gautam Buddh Nagar was destroyed Thursday after it reached its expiry date, officials said.
The beer worth an estimate Rs 3 crore belonged to three companies – United Breweries, IndoSpirit and Jasmeet Chaddha-Rohit Anand, an excise department official said.
"There were 45,000 bottles and 1.92 lakh cans of beer that had reached expiry date. Altogether, 1.24 lakh litres of such expired beer was destroyed," District Excise Officer Rakesh Singh said.
"The total cost of the beer would have been around Rs 3 crore if not expired," he said.
Singh said beer becomes unfit for drinking after six months.
The action was taken on directions from the district magistrate by sub-divisional magistrate, Dadri, Rajeev Rai in presence of deputy excise commissioner, Meerut.
