Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 21 (ANI): Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Thursday held a briefing session of the Home and Political department and took stock of its activities in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan in Guwahati.

In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Home and Political Niraj Verma gave a detailed presentation of the activities of the department in the presence of DGP G.P. Singh and senior officials of the department. DGP G.P. Singh briefed on the activities and schemes that Assam Police is undertaking for the maintenance of law and order and expediting the development of the state.

The Governor said that to incentivize the dedication of the police personnel, the department advised introducing the ranking of police stations in accordance with their performance for protecting the life and properties of the people of the state.

He also advised the department to introduce the same for the Superintendents of Police (SPs) in the districts.

The Governor also asked the DGP to set some parameters to determine their level of performance and accordingly adjudge the best SP and Police Stations.

He said this move will set examples and motivate others to work diligently.

The Governor also suggested that at least one Mobile Forensic Laboratory may be deployed in every district to collect evidence from the sites of crime, which according to him will also be helpful in disposing of the cases swiftly besides delivering justice to the people.

He also opined that the Department of Forensic Studies may be set up in one or two universities to train the manpower and develop forensic science in the state.

The Governor also asked the DGP to hold regular fitness camps so that the field-level police personnel and officers remain motivated and physically fit. (ANI)
