Virudhunagar, August 19: In a tragic incident, an elephant died after being electrocuted by an illegal electric fence in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district, said forest officials.

The incident happened on Sunday on a farm in Rajapalayam where the owner identified as Gopalamoorthy had installed an electric fence to prevent wild boars from entering the farm, said forest officials. A six-year-old male elephant wandered into the farm in search of food and came into contact with the electric fence. Forest officials investigated the incident and arrested the farm owner. The elephant's body was sent for post-mortem, and further action will be taken based on the report. More updates on the matter are awaited.
