New Delhi [Pakistan], Jan 7 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister and former cricketer Imran Khan on Tuesday heaped praises on the Indian cricket team for becoming the first Asian team to win a Test series on Australian soil.

Khan took to Twitter to compliment the number one ranked India and its captain Virat Kohli, saying: "Congratulations to Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team for the first ever win by a subcontinent team in a test series in Australia."

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar also lauded the Men in Blue for their performance and keeping the pressure on Australia in their own turf.

"Congratulations to Team India for a historic series victory Down Under. One of the toughest tours in world cricket is a Test Series in Australia. It was a great effort and they kept Aussies under pressure throughout," Akhtar wrote.

Russel Arnold, the former Sri Lanka batsman, too hailed the Indian side calling them "thoroughly deserve the Tag of best Test team".

"Congratulations @BCCI An outstanding achievement winning in Oz. Played some brilliant cricket and thoroughly deserve the Tag of best Test team. Thought they've carried themselves well on and off the field without compromising aggression. Very well done!!" Arnold's Twitter post read.

Having already retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy thanks to their win at Adelaide and Melbourne, the number one-ranked India clinched the four-Test series 2-1 on January 7 as the fifth day of the final Test in Sydney concluded in a draw due to persistent rain. The morning session of the fourth day was washed out as well, following which the ground saw a bit of play in the second session and the abandonment of the final session. (ANI)
