Jaipur, Dec 11 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday alleged that Home Minister Amit Shah was misleading the nation in his name on the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

His remarks came after the home minister, in the Rajya Sabha, cited a letter written by the Congress leader to then home minister P Chidambaram seeking citizenship for Hindu and Sikh migrants from Pakistan who were living in the state.

"It is very unfortunate that the home minister is misleading the country by giving my reference in the Rajya Sabha. We took initiative on a long-standing demand of migrants, be it Hindus or Sikhs, who came to the border areas of Rajasthan from Pakistan," Gehlot tweeted.

"We wrote a letter to then home minister P Chidambaram. Had there been anyone apart from Hindus and Sikhs, we would have recommended the same," he said.

Gehlot said that he was at the Bengal border in 1971 during former prime minister Indira Gandhi's rule and served the migrants there irrespective of their religion.
