Sports News | Location for Manchester United's Proposed 1,00,000-seater Stadium Revealed

Manchester [UK], July 9 (ANI): Premier League giants Manchester United have unveiled the location for their new, proposed 1,00,000 seater stadium, sitting approximately 350 metres north-west of the existing iconic Old Trafford Stadium, reported Sky Sports.

It is uncertain, though, what the future of the current home venue of multi-time Premier League champions will be.

Just over two weeks back, the club announced the acquisition of most of the land to be used for the stadium, which will eventually become the largest in the UK. More details have been revealed regarding the regeneration of the Trafford Wharfside area - the area around the club's current home stadium, with the new stadium being at the heart of the Wharfside Masterplan.

The area is set to be a year-round sports and entertainment hub where thousands of new homes will also be built. Also, it will come alongside improved public transport links as well as facilities for walking and cycling.

The plan needs the final approval of the Trafford Council, set to take place on July 20, and when it comes, there will be an eight-week consultation period from July 28 to September 22, with events being held across the area to get people to see the masterplan and share their views on it.

Manchester United have spent the last 115 years at Old Trafford, which has a capacity of 74,000 spectators and the club is expected to use the venue till the new stadium is built. The new stadium has been named as 'New Trafford' in a brief document and features an umbrella design, which, as per the architect, will harvest solar energy and rainwater. Five years are expected to be taken for the completion of the venue, which will also have three masts, making it visible from 40km away.

In the recent Premier League 2025-26 season, Manchester United finished in third spot with 20 wins, 11 draws and seven losses in 38 games, securing a slot in the UEFA Champions League.

Ahead of the next season, Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as the club's permanent head coach after a successful interim spell in charge.

Carrick, who returned to Old Trafford in January this year following the departure of Ruben Amorim, has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2028, as per an official statement from Manchester United.

The former United midfielder guided the team back into the UEFA Champions League after overseeing an impressive turnaround in results during the second half of the season. Under Carrick, United won 11 of their 16 Premier League matches and accumulated the highest points tally in the division since his arrival. (ANI)
