Beirut [Lebanon], August 22 (ANI): Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Friday (local time) discussed the "continuation of Israeli aggressions" in Lebanon and the need to ensure the implementation of a framework agreement reached during Lebanon-US-Israel negotiations, Al Jazeera reported.

A statement from the Lebanese Presidency said the two leaders also discussed "the necessity of pressuring Israel to commit to implementing the framework agreement reached in the Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations in Washington", Al Jazeera reported.

Aoun thanked Meloni for Italy's role in hosting the tripartite negotiations and for its efforts in supporting security and stability in southern Lebanon, according to Al Jazeera.

The talks came amid continued tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, with Lebanese authorities reporting casualties from Israeli attacks.

Lebanon's Ministry of Health said at least 4,348 people have been killed in Israeli attacks since March 2, while more than 12,300 others have been injured, Al Jazeera reported.

The ministry also said that since the beginning of the current conflict on October 8, 2023, at least 8,915 people have been killed and more than 30,540 injured.

Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes carried out two strikes on southern Lebanon, targeting the Ali al-Taher ridge in Nabatieh province overlooking southern Lebanon and northern Israel, Al Jazeera reported, citing Lebanon's official National News Agency.

The agency also reported attacks near Deir Siryan, Doha Kafr Rumman and the al-Mansouri area in southern Lebanon, according to Al Jazeera. (ANI)
