Rajkot (Guj), Aug 18 (PTI) The Western Railway (WR) has sent a special train carrying nine lakh litres of drinking water to the flood-affected Kerala, it said in a statement here.
"Kerala has been affected badly duo to incessant rains. As a relief measure... Western Railway has sent a water-special train," said the release issued by WR's Rajkot division here.
"The train, with 15 coaches, carries around nine lakh litres of drinking water. It left for Palghat (Palakkad) from Ratlam (in Madhya Pradesh) yesterday," it said.
"The water special train's each coach tank is filled with potable water and the quality of each tank was tested before dispatch," the release said.
It also added that due to heavy rains and landslides in various places in Thiruvananthapuram and Palghat divisions, train no. 16338 between Ernakulam to Okha was cancelled yesterday.
As a result train no 16337, Okha-Ernakulam train starting from Okha on August 20, has also been cancelled, the release added.
