Mahindra To Launch Second Generation Rexton In India; To Compete With Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner

The second-generation SsangYong Rexton will be launched later this year around the festive season. The SUV was launched at the India Auto Expo 2018 under Mahindra badge. According to reports, the new Rexton- internationally known as the G4 Rexton, will be locally assembled at Mahindra’s Chakan plant and CKD kits will be imported from South Korea. The SUV's production will begin in the second half of 2018.

Mahindra had announced that the name of the brand will be Rexton in markets across the globe but the second-gen SUV will sport a different name in India. This announcement came at the Auto Expo 2018.

The two leaders of the SUV segment that Rexton will compete with will be - the Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner. The Endeavour and the Fortuner have ruled the market and introduced serious modifications in their subsequent models.

  • The Ford Endeavour is priced at Rs 26.05 lakh - 32.50 lakh.
  • The Toyota Fortuner is priced at Rs 26.20 lakh - Rs 31.99 lakh
  • The  SSANGYONG REXTON (OUTGOING) is priced at Rs 23.66 lakh - Rs 25.04 lakh and the G4 REXTON (NEW) is priced at Rs 25 lakh - Rs 28 lakh.

It will be interesting to see how the new Rexton manages to do in the heavily competitive segment of Utility Vehicles. But one thing is for sure, the new Rexton will definitely spice up the competition in this segment. What marketing strategy is adopted for the second-generation SsangYong Rexton will also determine how the prospective consumers view and respond to the vehicle.
