Why Maruti Suzuki Is Raising Car Prices by up to INR 20,000 in September 2026
Maruti Suzuki India will increase prices on select models by up to INR 20,000 starting September 2026, citing persistent inflationary pressures and rising input costs. The price revision follows strong domestic sales growth reported for August. 'The Company is constrained to pass on a portion of the increased costs to the market,' Maruti Suzuki said.
Maruti Suzuki India has announced that it will increase prices on select vehicle models by up to INR 20,000, effective September 2026, marking the automaker's third price revision since May due to persistent inflationary pressures and rising manufacturing expenses.
Input Cost Pressures Drive Revision
In a regulatory filing submitted to stock exchanges, the country's largest passenger car manufacturer stated that the adjustment is necessitated by a sustained climb in input costs. While the company has implemented internal cost-mitigation measures over recent months, enduring market expenses have forced a partial transfer of the burden to consumers. “However, with inflationary burdens at elevated levels and the adverse cost environment enduring, the Company is constrained to pass on a portion of the increased costs to the market, while continuing to ensure that the impact on customers is kept to the minimum extent possible,” Maruti Suzuki said in its communication.
Strong Domestic Sales Momentum
The latest price adjustment arrives against a backdrop of robust domestic demand for passenger vehicles. In August, Maruti Suzuki reported total sales of 2,19,220 units, reflecting strong momentum across domestic markets despite a slight 7 per cent dip in international exports to 33,844 units.
