Anthropic Valuation Surpasses OpenAI Hitting USD 965 Billion, AI Company Secures USD 65 Billion in Series H Funding

Anthropic has raised USD 65 billion, reaching a USD 965 billion valuation and surpassing OpenAI. The funding will expand computing capacity for the Claude chatbot to meet high demand. Supported by major investors and strategic partners like Amazon and Samsung, the company is also reportedly preparing for a public listing later this year to secure long-term infrastructure resources.

Anthropic announced on Thursday that it has successfully raised USD 65 billion in a Series H funding round, pushing the company’s post-money valuation to USD 965 billion. This significant capital injection is intended to expand the company’s computing capacity, effectively addressing the surging demand for its flagship chatbot, Claude, and enabling the scaling of its artificial intelligence products.

The new valuation marks a dramatic rise for the company, more than doubling from the USD 380 billion valuation recorded in February. This growth places Anthropic ahead of its primary competitor, OpenAI, which was last valued at USD 852 billion in March, further intensifying the rivalry for dominance in the global AI sector. Anthropic Claude in Chrome Extension Vulnerable to Hijacking, Researchers Warn ClaudeBleed Flaw Could Expose Gmail, Google Drive Data.

Anthropic Valuation Surge

The surge in valuation follows a period of rapid financial and operational growth. Anthropic reported that its run-rate revenue crossed the USD 47 billion mark earlier this month, driven by consistent adoption across its global enterprise customer base since its Series G funding round in February.

Despite this growth, the company has faced challenges in meeting user demand. In recent months, Anthropic has been forced to implement usage limits during peak operational hours. To manage this capacity strain, the startup has incentivised off-peak usage by offering additional compute resources during those periods.

Anthropic Strategic Partnerships and Infrastructure Investment

The funding round was led by major investment firms, including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, with Coatue and ICONIQ serving as co-leads. The round also featured significant participation from strategic infrastructure partners such as Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix.

The USD 65 billion total includes USD 15 billion of previously committed investments from major hyperscalers, featuring a USD 5 billion contribution from Amazon. This follows Amazon's announcement in April regarding an investment of up to USD 25 billion in Anthropic, which includes a commitment from the startup to spend over USD 100 billion on Amazon’s cloud technologies over the next decade. Cybersecurity Alert: SilverFox Group Launches Global Phishing Attacks Using ‘ABCDoor’ Python Backdoor, Targets Indian Firms.

Beyond its private funding success, Anthropic is reportedly preparing for a potential public listing. Investors and bankers familiar with the company suggest that both Anthropic and OpenAI are planning to tap public markets, potentially as early as this year. Accessing the public market is viewed as a necessary step for both firms to secure the massive computational resources required to power their existing services and continue the development of next-generation AI models.
