The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has commenced the process of crediting interest at a rate of 8.25 per cent for the financial year 2025-26 into the accounts of eligible members. As the EPFO processes these credits in batches across the country, subscribers are encouraged to check their updated passbooks to confirm the receipt of the annual interest.

The 8.25 per cent interest rate, which remains unchanged from the previous two fiscal years, has been formally ratified by the government following a recommendation from the EPFO’s Central Board of Trustees. While interest is calculated on a monthly running balance, it is officially credited to member accounts on an annual basis. How EPFO’s Automatic PF Account Transfer Works Under the New CITES Platform.

How To Check Your Updated EPF Balance

Members can verify whether the interest has been credited to their accounts through several official digital channels provided by the EPFO.

  • EPFO Member Passbook Portal: Visit the official member passbook website at passbook.epfindia.gov.in. Log in using your 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) and password. Once logged in, select the relevant Member ID to view a detailed statement that includes your latest contributions and credited interest.
  • UMANG App: The UMANG mobile application offers a simplified way to track your funds. After registering and linking your UAN, navigate to the "EPFO" section and select "View Passbook" under "Employee Centric Services" to see your updated account balance.
  • SMS Service: Members with a UAN-registered mobile number can receive an instant balance update via SMS. Send a message in the format EPFOHO UAN ENG (where "ENG" is the language code for English) to 7738299899. This service is available in ten regional languages.
  • Missed Call Service: You may also give a missed call to 9966044425 from your UAN-registered mobile number. The call will automatically disconnect, and you will receive an SMS containing your latest PF balance and contribution details.

Important Considerations for Members

If your passbook does not yet reflect the interest for the 2025-26 fiscal year, there is no cause for concern. The EPFO processes millions of accounts, and credits are often rolled out in batches. Members are advised to wait a few working days if the updated balance is not immediately visible. Furthermore, ensure that your UAN is active and that your KYC details - including your Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account information - are fully updated on the EPFO portal. Mismatched or incomplete KYC data is a common reason for delays in the credit process. EPFO: How To Check Old and New Claims, Access Service History on Revamped Portal.

The EPFO also reminds all subscribers that it never requests personal details such as OTPs, Aadhaar numbers, or bank account information over phone calls. Members should remain vigilant against fraudulent communications and rely exclusively on official EPFO portals and mobile applications for account-related updates.
