Massive Employment Opportunity: India's Data Centre Boom To Create 4.3 Lakh Jobs, Boost Housing Demand, Says Report
India's data centre sector is set to create over 430,000 jobs and drive 195 million sq ft of housing demand by 2030. According to a The Economic Times report, over 250 data centres are in the pipeline, transforming urban landscapes and boosting investments in power and logistics infrastructure nationwide.
India's data centre sector is poised for exponential growth, with more than 250 facilities in the pipeline that are projected to generate approximately 430,000 direct and ancillary jobs by the year 2030. This major digital infrastructure expansion is expected to trigger a substantial surge in residential housing demand across major urban centres and emerging digital corridors.
As per a report by The Economic Times, real estate consultant Square Yards released findings indicating that India's proposed data centre capacity of roughly 9,030 MW will require massive supporting infrastructure. India Data Centre Growth and Housing Demand
The massive influx of technical infrastructure is projected to drive a residential space demand of nearly 195 million square feet by 2030. While data centres themselves house specialized equipment and operate with leaner direct headcounts, they act as powerful anchors for regional economic activity.
The facilities attract vital capital investments in power grids, high-speed fibre connectivity, logistics hubs, and commercial complexes. This coordinated secondary development transforms surrounding peripheral zones into thriving residential hotspots, altering how metropolitan regions expand.
Regional Breakdown and Future Outlook
Key states are expected to capture the lion's share of this real estate momentum, with Maharashtra leading projected residential demand, followed closely by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. Furthermore, infrastructure-rich Tier-2 and Tier-3 locations are positioned to benefit significantly from the decentralization of digital hubs.
