Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan goes the Nana Patekar way by clearing loans of nearly 1,400 farmers in Uttar Pradesh. By donating a whopping Rs 4 crore, the actor has managed to clear off loans of about 1,400 farmers in Uttar Pradesh. Talk about philanthropy, this one takes the cake.

On the same, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Indian Farmers' Union) Rakesh Tikait spokesperson said, "Unpaid agricultural loans are a big problem that has left farmers in dire straits. The government policies are flawed and need an overhaul. We're fighting for that change but are thankful for any help that comes along the way."

It does come across as a grand gesture as the country's farmers have often been in the suffering sphere for ages now. The debts raised by farmers is far more than the crops they could deliver. Hence, help towards the backbone of the country is always appreciated. Big B's gesture has been symbolic and has left the farmers with a big smile on their face.

Speaking of the same, Bachchan also wrote about the same in his blog this week. He stated that he helped 1,398 farmers from UP by clearing off their loan and felt a great sense of accomplishment in doisng the same. A quote from his blog, "Gratitude leans across to the desire of removing some of the burdens that farmers continue to suffer... and the inner peace it generates when the desired is completed."

Recently in Kaun Banega Crorepati, the actor had revealed of his intentions to help the UP farmers. He had stated in the show, "...recently in Maharashtra, I have ensured that the loans of around 360 farmers have been paid off to the banks. My next step is to help clear loans of approximately 850 farmers in Uttar Pradesh."
