She may not have had a Rs 300 crore grosser in her kitty (but then neither does Karan Johar) but Zoya Akhtar is one of the most sought after director. Many stars in Bollywood are willing to be a part of her movies, because they offer ample scope from them to perform while also benefitting from some fine writing and dialogues. Remember how her first film, Luck By Chance, has a top star like Hrithik Roshan in a supporting role and features a slew of celeb cameos from Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan to Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor. Gully Boy Movie Review: Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt Are Bloody Brilliant in Zoya Akhtar’s Finest Work to Date!

Most of her films have had an ensemble cast, though we can't say the same about her latest film, Gully Boy, that is content with keeping Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as the leads.  Zoya Akhtar's movies are charming with some lovely human dynamics. However, like a Rohit Shetty or a Sanjay Leela Bhansali, her films don't normally guarantee. Let's look back all the feature-length movies Zoya made (she had also directed segments in movies like Bombay Talkies and Lust Stories) and how they fared at the box office.

Luck By Chance

Zoya Akhtar's debut directorial is also considered by many as her best work to date (though Gully Boy could replace that, going by the reviews). While the movie earned critical acclaim, Luck By Chance failed to impress at the box office.

Our Video Review of Gully Boy:

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

The breeziest film of Zoya's career, and also her most rewatchable, ZNMD benefits some good music and a good-looking cast in Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif and Abhay Deol. The movie is her biggest hit.

Dil Dhadakne Do

This ensemble dramedy about a dysfunctional rich family on a cruise has its moments, but also its flaws. Although DDD, starring Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma, enjoyed great hype, it was met with mixed reviews and performed averagely at the box office.

So can Gully Boy turn out to be Zoya's biggest hit? Both Ranveer and Alia are big draws at the box office and the movie is already getting good reviews. A combination of both factors can turn out big profits for the film!
