Makers of Coolie No 1 have remained their lips sealed and raised the anticipation for the film. Except for the fact that the movie will star Varun Dhawan as the lead role and it is an adaptation of the Govinda and Karishma Kapoor starrer Coolie No 1, no other information has been confirmed. Reports speculate that Sara Ali Khan will play the lead opposite Varun, but the makers have not yet revealed their confirmation. The film's writer Farhad Samji had earlier confirmed that Sara will play the lead. Now, designer Manish Malhotra, in an interview confirmed the same. However, we still await the confirmation from the makers! Coolie No. 1: Writer Farhad Samji Confirms Sara Ali Khan to Star Opposite Varun Dhawan in The Laughter Riot.

In an interview with Zoom, when Manish was asked if he has any favourites from the Gen-Z, Malhotra laughed and said, “I am happy to be working with younger actors - who wear my clothes, whose movies I am working on - Ananya, Tara and of course, Janhvi is super special to me. I have seen her from childhood.”

He added, "I have worked with Sara on Simmba with and I am going to work with her again in Coolie No 1.With Janhvi, I did Dhdak, so for me, they are all fab."

However, during the Kalank promotions, when Varun was asked for more information about the film, he had his lips sealed. He had said that the filmmakers will confirm the casting soon.

While the writer and designer of the film have already stated that Sara will be the face in Cooli No 1, we wonder what is the delay in making this news public!

Talking about the film, the writer had revealed that the film is neither a remake nor sequel of Govinda starrer Coolie No. 1. He asserted that the project is more of an adaptation in a new format. The film will also be a cocktail of plenty of humour, colour and larger than life songs. Helmed by David Dhawan, the movie is slated to go on floors from July this year.
