The world has been waiting to learn about Deepika Padukone's next project after the highly successful Padmaavat. The actress has not shot for any film for almost a year now. But the wait for us and even her is about to be over. The announcement about her next has been made and, as opposed to easing the curiosity, the matter has been made worse. Because there is no way you will be able to patiently wait for this film in which Deepika will be playing an acid attack survivor. As per a report by Times of India, Deepika has been signed on to play the lead role in Meghna Gulzar's next film. Oh did we not tell you that the movie will be made by Raazi director Meghna? Oopps. So, that is one more reason for you to be excited. The plot of the film will be based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal, who was instrumental in getting the lawmakers to ban the sale of acid after an attack left her disfigured.

In fact, Deepika was so moved by the story that she decided to produce it herself.  “When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer,” Deepika told Times of India.

Earlier, Deepika was slated to star in Vishal Bhardwaj's film Sapna Didi, in which she was going to play a female gangster. The movie also starred Irrfan Khan, but owing to the health of the actor, this project has been put on the backburner.

Other than the film with Meghna Gulzar, Deepika is also expected to start shooting for xXx: Return of Xander Cage sequel. The movie will go on floors in January 2019. Filmmaker DJ Caruso has said on his Twitter page that they are trying to figure out Deepika's dates for the film.
