2018 has been a curious year for Bollywood when it comes to the box office. A Salman Khan movie failed to cross Rs 200 crore, despite being a masala entertainer. Two female-led movies, Raazi and Veere Di Wedding, won over the audiences, despite one of them getting an A Rating. A Hollywood movie went on to do what a Salman Khan movie couldn't do this year - earn more than Rs 200 crore at the box office. Above all, the biggest hit of the year happens to be a movie that fought against all odds to manage a difficult release - Padmaavat.

As the month of June is coming to end, it is time for us to find out check the report card of Bollywood box-office wise. Sure, there is still one major movie to come at the fag end of the period, Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju, and going by the pre-release buzz, is aiming to make big bucks at the box office. But since the proper earnings will only be known in the weeks later, let's consider all the movies that have come out till now. Please note we are only considering domestic box office collection in the below feature.

So here are the top 7 highest grossers in the first half of 2018, starting from the highest grossing (figures taken from Bollywood Hungama).

Padmaavat

Box office collections: Rs 302.15 Crore

Don't know whether it is Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the stars' combined box office clout or Karni Sena's protests over it or both, but Padmaavat managed to be a winner at the box office. It also became the first (and the only, till now) movie of the year to earn more than Rs 300 crore, a rare feat for a movie released in the first quarter of any year.

Avengers: Infinity War

Box office collections: Rs 227.28 Crore

Now, who expected a Hollywood movie to do a business of more than Rs 200 crore in India? In 2016, The Jungle Book nearly managed to do that. But it was Marvel's latest release, Infinity War, that managed to achieve this feat, showing us that MCU is truly this generation's Star Wars. Expect Avengers 4 to do similar business when it comes out next year.

Baaghi 2

Box office collections: Rs 164.38 Crore

Brushing aside the debacles of A Flying Jatt and Munna Michael, Tiger Shroff played to his core strengths and delivered a blazing hit that regained his strong fan-base. While there is nothing to crow about when it comes to the plot, the action sequences were enough to please all Tiger fans!

Race 3

Box office collections: Rs 156.04 Crore

Inflated figures or not, Race 3 is definitely a profitable venture for the producers and that includes Salman Khan himself. However, for the distributors, who bought it at a high price, it may be a different story altogether. The movie might have grossed more than Rs 100 crore within three days, but it did alienate some of Salman Khan fans thanks to its poor content and lazy film-making.

Raazi

Box office collections: Rs 123.17 Crore

2018 is a year where it was proven that even female-dominated movies can score big at the supposedly male-inclined box office. Raazi is a prime example of that, as the Alia Bhatt starrer went on to gross more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. You can also thank Meghna Gulzar's taut direction and the riveting screenplay for the movie's success too.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

Box office collections: Rs 302.15 Crore

Despite being accused of making sexist overtones, this romantic comedy impressed the youth to enter the Rs 100 crore club. Even though it doesn't have any superstars, SKTKS managed to win at the box office thanks to the winsome performances of the lead cast and the humour, aided by the masaledar soundtrack.

Raid

Box office collections: Rs 103.07 Crore

Ajay Devgn managed to impress well at the box office with his sole release of 2018 till date, Raid. Thanks to an interesting premise and a great supporting turn by Saurabh Shukla, Raid managed to make itself a winner for the audiences.
