For those who have followed Bollywood in the 90s, one of the most hit director-actor combinations was David Dhawan and Govinda. The duo churned out several successful films together, not to mention were synonymous for delivering a string of hits in the comic genre. Govind and David Dhawan worked together for seventeen films and it was a huge let down for fans when things started to go south between the two, to point that they never worked together again. Several years later, Govinda has now thrown light on what went wrong between the duo. CONFIRMED! Anupam Kher Will Not Star in Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan’s Coolie No 1 Remake

Fans had been curious for the longest time to find out the details about their fall out. The director-actor worked together for popular films such as Saajan Chale Sasural, Hero No 1, Coolie No 1, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan before parting ways with Partner which released in 2007 and was their last film together.

Recently, opening up about their rift on India TV's Aap Ki Adalat, Govinda spoke about why he hasn't spoken to the director over the years. He said, "David will be in the position to ask me this question only when his son does as many as 17 films with him. I don’t think even his son will do 17 movies with him. Because he is David Dhawan’s son and he’s educated. I didn’t even know the meaning of doing that many movies with an actor. I was only told by Sanjay Dutt that he’s a Punjabi and he’s to meet me. That time I used to provide work to a lot of Punjabis with me. So he came, and I liked him and thought, I could come up with a lot of hit films with him.”

Speaking about why things escalated between the two, the actor recalled that it all happened during the making of Chasme Badoor. According to the actor, after he had a talk with David Dhawan about the film, the director without involving him started working on it with Rishi Kapoor on board.

He further said, "When my secretary was in conversation with him, I had asked my secretary to keep the phone on speaker, and that’s when I heard him saying, ‘Chi Chi has started questioning way too much. I don’t want to work with him anymore. Ask him to do any small role that he gets. I was very hurt by what he had said.” Varun Dhawan Says He’s Humoured by the Reports Claiming VT Station is Being Recreated in London for Coolie No 1

Govinda speaks about his fallout with David Dhawan:

Unfortunately, things never got better after this incident and hence the actor hasn't been in touch with the director ever since. It is indeed unfortunate considering it would have been immense fun to catch Govinda and Varun Dhawan in a film together, especially with the Coolie No 1 remake being made. Clearly, the Dhawan lad has grown up watching the actor's films and with both their impeccable comic timing, it would have been a treat for fans.
