We are all pretty aware of the frightening situation in Kerala; Over 300 people have lost their lives and many are missing ever since (August 8) the floods and landslides. While everyone is doing their best by contributing as much as they could towards the needs of the people of the flood-hit state, several Bollywood celebrities too came forward to help those affected by the floods and spread awareness about the situation back in the state, urging fans to provide aid to the people of Kerala.

After B-town celebs like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Dulquer Salmaan, among others, now Anushka Sharma and husband Virat Kohli have come forward to help the victims. Well, not just the victims, but also the distraught animals, who are suffering due to floods and landslides. Isn't that very kind of them to help all kinds of beings who have faced the brunt of an unprecedented flood?

In a statement to DNA, a source said, “Anushka and Virat got in touch with their respective teams and immediately pledged support to the relief fund, so that aid could reach the people of Kerala. Moreover, they are sponsoring a truck loaded with food and medicines to help the animals in crisis.” Just the kind of people we need in our society.

The report also suggests that the couple has also teamed up with a local NGO; They are assisting to send rescue teams (comprising eight members) for rehab and treatment. “They will look at rescuing strays in Kerala and the protection of wildlife. They want to provide support and care to the animals that are in need of urgent help,” added the source.

Speaking of animal rescue, the Hyderabad-based Humane Society International/India has set up an emergency helpline to coordinate animal rescue in Kerala. Reportedly, it is collaborating with the Bengaluru-based Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (CUPA) for rescue efforts in Karnataka’s hill district, Coorg. Watch this space for further updates.
