It has been a long time since Bollywood has seen a good war drama. As far as I can remember, the last good war movie we had was Hrithik Roshan's 2004 film, Lakshya, which failed to do wonders at the box office. JP Dutta, the man who gave us Bollywood's best war drama in Border (also the underrated LOC Kargil), is making a new addition to the genre with his upcoming movie Paltan. The movie has been produced by Zee Studios and his own banner JP Films.

Set against the backdrop of Indo-China war, Paltan is based on the Nathu La and Cho La military clashes of 1967 which took place along the Sikkim border. Like Dutta's previous movies, Paltan is also a multi-starrer, with Jackie Shroff, Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Choudhary, Harshvardhan Rane and Luv Sinha forming the cast. Dipika Kakkar, Sonal Chauhan, Monica Gill and Esha Gupta are the female leads. Check out the trailer below -

The trailer begins with typical JP Dutta style, as both Indian and Chinese soldiers engage in verbal and psychological warfare first, before getting on a full-blown battle. As it delves into the real action, the trailer gets exciting, though we do miss the powerful presence of Border's Sunny Deol and LOC Kargil's Ajay Devgn.

In an interview to Mid-Day, JP Dutta said, "I always wanted my films to be as close to reality as is possible. They gave us factual details, and insights into what the soldiers and their families endured emotionally. With Paltan, the journey was tougher, because little is known about the [events]. Speaking to the families enhanced our film, and helped us in developing the characters of the Army men in the best way possible." Paltan is all set to release on September 7.
