Though he has played a playboy, a conman, a goon, and of course, two historical figures, Ranveer Singh has never played a complete masala hero that has been a forte of Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn. That ends with Simmba, the actor's second release of the year after the monster hit, Padmaavat. Simmba also marks his first collaboration with Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty, the former being the producer and the latter being the director. If you are not aware of this, Simmba is the official remake of Telugu film, Temper, with Ranveer playing a corrupt cop working for a powerful man, played by Sonu Sood. But Rohit Shetty has smartly incorporated some major changes to make it more Bollywood friendly. For one, it is set in the same universe as Rohit Shetty's Singham series with Ajay Devgn's Bajirao Singham playing a major influence (also ruining a spoiler-ish cameo).  Work First! Then the drug angle from the original film is replaced by the rape of a woman close to the protagonist. Singham influence is quite evident in the dialogues and the action scenes, and also how little the female lead, matters into things. Also, why did you really need to show off Devgn's cameo in the first trailer itself? Are you not really confident about pulling power of your leading man?
