Abhishek Chaubey's latest directorial venture Sonchiriya could be out of theatres sooner than later. We say so because, despite all the rave reviews and the praise coming its way, the film is still having a tough time staying afloat at the box office. After getting off to a slow start on Friday, Sonchiriya continued its poor run on Saturday and Sunday as well. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana, the film releases on March 1 and so far has only managed to rake in Rs 4.60 crore at the Indian box office. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the microblogging site Twitter a while back and announced the updated figures. He wrote, "#SonChiriya won tremendous acclaim, but, unfortunately, it did not convert into footfalls and numbers... Did improve slightly on Day 2 and 3, but the weekend total remains extremely low... Fri 1.20 cr, Sat 1.50 cr, Sun 1.90 cr. Total: ₹ 4.60 cr. India biz."
Further, a report in the Boxofficeindia.com stated, "There was no growth on Sunday when this film is for high-end end multiplexes which collect best on Sunday. There are reports that the artists are not happy with the size of the release but actually, the release is far too big for this type of film. It should actually just release on 200 odd multiplexes. When a film practically has no audience then more screens will make no difference. Collections come with footfalls not extra screens." Also, the fact that quite a few films are running in successfully in theatres, it has made things although more difficult for Sonchiriya. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, the action film has been released across 940 screens worldwide.
