Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thackeray saw a good jump in the collections over Saturday. While the opening day figures were rs 6 crore, on day two, the movie ended the business with Rs 10 crore. The two day total for this biopic is now Rs 16 crore, which is pretty decent given the budget of the film. Thackeray has become Nawazuddin's highest opener as a solo lead. The movie has managed to beat films like Raman Raghav 2.0, Maajhi - The Mountain Man, Monsoon Shootout etc. The actor's performance is being praised by all the critics and audience alike. At this point, saying Nawazuddin has acted well in the film is saying it was hot during the summer.

Talking about the role, Nawazuddin has said, " It was a tough and challenging role for me because he was an iconic figure and while doing the film on him, the only thing which remained in my mind was that through my actions, I have to do justice to the role. So, I researched a lot about him, I watched a lot of his videos, speeches and Sanjay Raut (writer) helped me in giving details about Balasahebji's life."

Thackeray, a biopic on the late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray, was released on Friday along with Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi. The biopic on the late Marathi leader has been written by journalist and MP Sanjay Raut. The film is helmed by Abhijit Panse. It stars Siddiqui as Balasaheb and Amrita Rao as Balasaheb's wife, the late Meenatai.
