Sharat Saxena Undergoes 6-Hour Spine Surgery

Saxena took to Instagram to share a montage of photographs detailing his medical journey, from pre-procedure scans to his return home. Prior to the operation, he posted a photo undergoing a standing MRI scan at Bombay Hospital.

Following the complex six-hour procedure, he posted pictures resting in a hospital bed with the overlay text "Surgery Done," accompanied by a resilient caption: "6 hour spine surgery- done. CAN'T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN".

Subsequent slides in his social media update captured him surrounded by family members during his drive home. Maintaining his signature humour, Saxena noted that he was glad to move past hospital soups, declaring, "No more walking with the stick," and lightheartedly adding, "Party today, gym tomorrow". Industry colleagues including Tisca Chopra, Anup Soni, and Vindu Dara Singh extended quick-recovery wishes in the comments section.

Who is Sharat Saxena?

Born on August 17, 1950, in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, Sharat Saxena initially pursued an engineering degree at the Jabalpur Engineering College before moving to Mumbai in the early 1970s to pursue acting. He made his screen debut with the 1974 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Benaam. Due to his muscular build, he was frequently cast in action roles, henchman parts, and antagonistic characters, earning a reputation as one of Indian cinema's most dependable screen villains.

Over a career spanning more than five decades, Saxena has acted in over 250 films across Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and English cinema. Some of his most prominent Bollywood works include  Dagaga in Mr India (1987), Ronnie in Ghulam (1998), which earned him a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Villain. Tiwari, aka Totla Seth, in Phir Hera Pheri (2006) and key supporting roles in Tridev, Ghayal, Gupt, Baghban, Krrish, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
