War starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, isn't the only film that released on October 2. There's Joaquin Phoenix's Joker and Chiranjeevi's Sye Raa Narsimha Reddy. All three films were eagerly awaited by the audience. While War has dominated the box office nationally, it is Joker that got away with maximum love at the box office in Chennai. Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker has a Way of Entering Robert Pattinson’s Batman Universe – Here’s How

As per Trade experts, Joker has managed to trump over local movies and that says a lot about what the audience feels. Joker is anyway riding on tremendous reviews which has led Chennai to flock to theatres for the same. South anyway has a huge liking for Hollywood films but seeing it beat one of their own, is quite interesting.

Joker is directed by Martin Scorsese and has been clouded in controversy. There are allegations on it that it propagates violence. Security personnel have been stationed outside theatres to avoid unpleasant incidents. But despite all that, it got a 8-minute standing ovation when it was screened at the Venice Film Festival. It was supposed to release on October 4 but realising that October 2 is a holiday in India, the release was pushed up. That has surely benefited the film despite being outnumbered by War in terms of screen count.
