A sensational report has sent ripples across the South Indian film industry, hinting at a potential first-time collaboration between the powerhouse actor Ajith Kumar and visionary director Shankar. Ajith Kumar x Shankar Soon?

The highly anticipated team-up between Ajith Kumar and Shankar is being touted as a project that could take shape once Ajith fulfills his immediate film commitments. According to the Touring Talkies report, this includes completing his upcoming film Dare Devil and a possible sequel to his 2011 blockbuster, Mankatha 2.

Director Shankar, known for his grand cinematic spectacles, was previously expected to dive into his magnum opus, Velpari, an ambitious adaptation of S Venkatesan's historical novel. However, industry insiders suggest that the reported collaboration with Ajith Kumar could lead to a temporary deferment of Velpari, allowing Shankar to helm a project with a potentially swifter production timeline before embarking on his large-scale historical venture.

Shankar's Velpari is envisioned as a colossal undertaking, requiring extensive pre-production, which reportedly commenced and could span nearly a year. Reports from January 2026 indicated that Velpari might proceed with stringent budget constraints, despite Shankar describing it as his most ideal and ambitious project, surpassing even Enthiran. His last directorial venture was Game Changer, starring Ram Charan, which was released on January 10, 2025.

Ajith Kumar's Upcoming Slate

Fans of Ajith Kumar have much to look forward to, with a mix of confirmed and rumoured projects lining up. Ajith Kumar’s 64th film, tentatively known as AK64, has officially been titled ‘Dare Devil’.
