Kolkata, June 26: A man from Kolkata received a message offering a primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) when he called Flipkart's helpline after he received a wrong order. The football lover ordered two sets of headphones to watch late night football matches without disturbing his family members. However, the package delivered by the company contained only a bottle of oil.

The furious man then dialled the customer care number printed on the package. After one call the number was disconnected and within a while, he received a message ‘“Welcome to BJP’ with an offer to have a primary membership of the party.

He tried calling the number many times but got the same result. The man even shared this number to his friends, but they all received the same message after dialling the number. Soon they realised that 1800 266 1001, the number they were dialling was a BJP’s number for signing up for a membership.

However, the BJP has given clarification regarding the matter. “The BJP number is on the website, on Facebook. Anyone can share it. You can also share it. That's not our responsibility”, reported NDTV quoting Dilip Ghosh, the state BJP chief as saying.

Flipkart contacted the unsatisfied customer. The company asked the man to keep the oil with him. The company also ensured the customer that it would send one pair headphones instead of two as it did not have two sets of the product and promised to refund the money for the second pair.

Flikpart also clarified about the mix-up. In a statement, it said that given up the number three years ago. The packing tape with an old number printed on it was used.
