Kohima, June 29: An Assam Rifles jawan was injured in twin Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts carried out by National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) insurgents in the Phek district of Nagaland. The blasts took place near Akhegwo village at 3 pm yesterday.

A road opening party of the paramilitary force was providing security for the passage of an Assam Rifles convoy when the blast occurred, an officer of the paramilitary officer said. The jawan suffered splinter injuries on his chest and leg in the blasts, which took place within a gap of some time, the officer added. He was immediately evacuated to the Army Hospital in Jorhat. The convoy was coming from Kiphire district.

The NSCN(K), in a statement, has claimed responsibility for the blasts. On June 17, two Assam Rifles personnel were martyred and four others suffered injuries in an ambush by insurgents of NSCN (K) near Aboi in the Mon district.

On Wednesday, Indian Army commandos have attacked a NSCN-K camp in Myanmar. A team of 12 Para Commandos attacked a check post of the NSCN-K situated in the vicinity of its Shwelo camp inside Myanmar. According to the army, the rebels suffered at least four to five casualties. The NSCN-K faction ended a ceasefire signed in 2001 with the Indian government on March 27, 2015.
