The coveted St Xavier’s College in Kolkata is coming up with some new initiatives for the betterment of the students. It recently announced to reportedly open up a finance laboratory in the next six months to help the students undertake research in economics and accounting. Now, the authorities decided to start postgraduate courses for ten more subjects in the Park Street campus in the coming two years. St Xavier’s new finance laboratory is the first-of-its-kind to begin in any college in the country—a research lab for students with finance specialisation. Now as per The Indian Express, from 2020, the college plans to begin PG courses for many subjects like MA in Sociology and History, MSc in Chemistry, Statistics/ Data Science and Economics. If the Institute launches the PG curriculum successfully, the Kolkata college will also start PhD courses after two years. Meanwhile, talking about the new finance lab, the principal Fr Dominic Savio was quoted in a TOI report as saying, “The library can accommodate 300-400 students at a time. To encourage and inculcate reading habit among students, we have decided to introduce the incentives. Three students from undergraduate courses across all disciplines will be considered for the award.”
