Bengaluru, June 7: We all know that sharing of card PIN to unknown people is not allowed, but be very careful next time, even if you are letting your spouse or your parents withdraw money from the ATM using your debit card. According to a Times of India report, a Bengaluru woman on maternity leave recently learnt the hard way. The incident goes back to 2013, when Marathahalli resident Vandana gave her debit card with the PIN to her husband, Rajesh Kumar, to withdraw Rs 25,000 cash from a local SBI ATM. Rajesh went to withdraw, the amount got deducted, but the money was not dispensed.

From contacting the call centre to approaching the bank’s Helicopter Division branch at HAL, with a formal complaint, the couple was incredibly shocked to see that SBI allegedly closed the case stating the customer got the money. After looking at the CCTV footage, it was found that money was not disbursed, and Rajesh was using Vandana's card.

Before approaching the consumer forum, the couple contacted the bank ombudsman who merely ruled, ‘PIN shared, case closed.’ The case went on for over three-and-a-half years, and finally, on May 29, 2018, the Court ruled that Vandana should have given a self-cheque or an authorisation letter to her husband for withdrawal of Rs 25,000, instead of sharing the PIN and making him withdraw the money. The court thus dismissed the case.
