Srinagar, Aug 14: Retaliating against ceasefire violations along Jammu and Kashmir’s Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army on Monday killed two Pakistani soldiers in the state’s Tangdhar sector. The Pakistan Army violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing in Tangdhar sector along the Line of Control in a bid to infiltrate terrorists in the Indian territory.

"Indian Army gunned down two Pakistani soldiers last night in a retaliatory action to unprovoked ceasefire violations and repeated attempts to facilitate infiltration by Pakistan Army in Tangdhar sector in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district," Defence PRO said on Tuesday. On Monday, an Indian soldier was killed in the LoC's Tangdhar sector in unprovoked firing from the Pakistani side.

"Our troops carried out calibrated operations last night in which two Pakistani soldiers were killed," Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia told IANS. Last month, Pakistan troops violated ceasefire by firing on Indian posts along LoC in Rajouri district, drawing retaliation from Army.

The government in July said 55 civilians and security personnel have been killed in alleged ceasefire violations along the LoC and in firing across the international border with Pakistan so far in 2018. Pakistani security forces allegedly violated the ceasefire or fired across the international border at least 1,432 times till July 23 this year.

Of these, 942 were ceasefire violations along the Line of Control. The remaining were at the border till June. In 2017, the number of deaths in such incidents was 31, while 26 each in 2015 and 2016, said the government data.
