New Delhi, Apr 3: As many as 60 employees have been sacked by Amazon India as part of its restructuring exercise. The company sources, cited by reports, claim more layoffs could be expected.

The 60 employees who were laid off by Amazon were part of the recruitment team. Even as the company looks to reduce its working strength, it has invited applications for as many as 4,000 openings.

Company insiders claim a signal has been issued to a section of the workforce as the number of employees put under the performance improvement programme is 25 percent more than those placed under the PIP last year.

An Amazon India spokesperson, while speaking to Gadgets Now, confirmed the sacking of at least 60 employees. "As a global organisation, we have recognised the need to organise our teams to keep us agile and help us use our resources optimally. This has impacted a small number of roles within the company," he was reported as saying.

In February this year, Amazon laid off hundreds off employees at the Seattle headquarters, which led market experts to speculate a similar layoff of Amazon employees in India.
