Patna, June 26: At least three people have been killed in Bihar after consuming ‘surgical spirit’. The incident took place at an area under town police station in the state’s Begusarai area on Sunday. According to a report by Indian Express, the bodies of two people were cremated before authorities were informed of their deaths while the body of the third victim has been sent for post-mortem.

The report further informs that the police is now waiting for the reports of the third person to ascertain the cause of their death. Begusarai SP Aditya Kumar was quoted in the report saying that prima facie, it appears that the deaths are due to consumption of surgical liquor but the family members of the victims have not confirmed as much.

Meanwhile, DSP Mithilesh Kumar informed that Sonu Kumar, 28, died at the hospital. The DSP was further quoted in the reports saying that the victim’s family has revealed that Sonu was ailing for a long time. The family also produced documents relating to his medical history.

According to the Indian Express report, several residents of Pokharia complained that the deceased and his two friends had consumed spirit. The two others were identified as Manoj Paswan, 40, and Sunil Kumar, 32.

In wake of the rising deaths due to liquor in the state, leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav took a dig at the state government saying that prohibition has failed and law and order has gone for a toss. Slamming the state government, Yadav said the Chief Minister has been busy in his political posturings to save his chair.
