Mumbai, May 28: In order to ensure the safety of people especially women, the Maharashtra state government is planning to install drone cameras across Mumbai. The idea behind bringing these cameras to keep a hawk-eye on rising crimes in the city. According to news reports, the state government is to spend Rs. 250 crore approximately on procuring and  installing these drone cameras. The newly-bought cameras will be connected to a mobile application which will have a common server. Therefore, those who install the mobile app will have access to a panic button which will hep them report a complaint directly to the main police control room.

According to sources, the user can click on the panic button during an emergency situation and the nearest drone camera will reach the spot and will capture the incident and send live updates to the police control room. It will give the police photographic information about the crime even before they reach the spot. This will also act as evidence while prosecuting the accused.

The drone cameras will not only ensure women safety but also help to assist the police in the untoward situations, claim the sources. The Mumbai Police Public Relation Officer, DCP Deepak Devraj was quoted by Zee News as saying,“Drones will be used to ensure security in Mumbai. This will lead to better security in the city. With drone cameras, we can monitor areas which got ignored till now.”

Initially, the drone cameras will be installed at crowded places to keep a strict vigilance like where there is the highest number of foot count. For instance, the drones will be used for security during Ganpati festival, political rallies and during sports events like IPL.
