Hyderabad,  May 25: An 11-year old girl was arrested by the Hyderabad police on Friday for allegedly pushing a 14-month old baby girl into a sewage pit. It resulted in the baby girl’s death. The incident took place at Necklace Road on the banks of Hussainsagar Lake in Hyderabad on Thursday.

According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the body of P Akshara, daughter of a slum dweller living adjacent to Jala Vihar waterpark on the banks of the lake, was retrieved on Thursday evening and was sent to Gandhi hospital for post-mortem. The girl died of asphyxiation as she gulped sewage water, doctors said.

On the basis of the footage of closed-circuit cameras installed in the area, the police initially thought that the girl had accidentally fallen into the sewage pit which causes her death. In the cameras, it is indicated that the girl was walking out of their house alone.

According to the report, Akshara’s father Appala Naidu, in his complaint to the police alleged his daughter might have been kidnapped and later murdered by somebody. The police on Friday enquired about the incident from the children in the surrounding areas. It is then they came to know that the 11-year old girl, had pushed the baby into the pit. The 11-year-old girl was playing with the baby girl on Thursday.

The 11-year-old girl pushed Akshara away as the baby girl bit her on her hand. Akshara accidentally fell into the sewage pit after being pushed. The Police told Hindustan Times, “Apparently, Akshara bit the girl’s hand while playing and in a fit of anger, the girl pushed the baby away, and she fell into the adjacent pit accidentally. When Akshara did not come out, the girl was frightened and ran away from the spot,” The girl was sent her to a juvenile home.
