Mumbai, May 14: In a major rejig to PM Narendra Modi’s cabinet, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was given an additional charge of Finance Ministry, on May 14. With it, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore was also elevated to the post of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister. There was a slew of changes made by the Modi government on the eve of Karnataka Assembly Elections Results 2018.

Union Minister Smriti Irani was removed from the Information & Broadcasting ministry, as Col. Rathore was given an additional (Independent) charge of I&B Ministry. However, she will be continuing as the Minister of Textile Ministry.

Reportedly, SS Ahluwalia will now also look after Department of Electronics. Ahluwalia, who was earlier a Minister of State (MoS) in Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, was now relieved of his duties. He will now be serving as the MoS in Ministry of Electronics, and Information Technology.

Months after keeping unwell, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had undergone a successful kidney transplant surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), on Monday. Currently working as the Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal will now also be handling the Finance Ministry, until Arun Jaitley recovers.
