Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police, on Tuesday, apologised for the brutal incident that took place in Hapur a couple of days back. Taking cognisance of a tweet posted by a user on Twitter, the UP Police replied with an apology on the issue. In connection to it, another image of an injured man being dragged in the middle of the road in the presence of three police officers in uniform was going viral on social media. A Twitter user (username: Neelesh Misra) had tagged UP Police in his tweet and had complained about the same.

Replying to the tweet, the official handle of UP Police apologised for the (Hapur) incident and also clarified on the image which was being circulated on the social media. The UP police said that they (police officers in uniform) had been transferred to Police lines and an enquiry had been ordered into it.

However, it also pointed out that due to the non-availability of the ambulance at the point in time, the victim was (unfortunately) carried in that manner. The UP Police also shared an image where it is shown that the injured man was rushed to the nearby hospital in an ambulance, later.

In its reply to the user, the UP Police said, “We are sorry for the Hapur incident. Law & order incidents often lead to unintended yet undesirable acts.” Read Uttar Pradesh Police’s tweet here:

Earlier, the Twitter user, in its tweet to UP Police, had complained by saying, “Sir, I don’t want to go into the allegations as I don’t have all details but at least three policemen in uniform and the man being dragged like a dead animal? This calls for punitive and exemplary action.” Read Neelesh Misra’s tweet here:

On June 19, Qasim was lynched by a group of people in Hapur village, in Uttar Pradesh. There were widespread rumours that he along with his accomplice were trying to steal three cows and a calf for slaughter. The UP Police had then described the incident as a case of a fight over a motorcycle accident.

With all said and done, the UP Police apologising on a public forum for an unfortunate incident might not be able to compensate for the loss of life, but then, this is undoubtedly a lesson learnt. The user, later, thanked the police for their acceptance of their fault and apologising on the same. Read his tweet here:

How often would you see a police force apologising for an incident which should not have happened in the first place? Rarely! However, with the acceptance on the public forum, the UP police has sent out a strong message to the people that no matter what letters or grievances are sent across, they are taking cognisance of them; and that comes as a welcoming move!
