'Arunachal Pradesh Is an Indelible and Integral Part of India': MEA Rejects China’s Objections to Place Names

India on Tuesday firmly dismissed Beijing’s objections to New Delhi’s naming of geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh, reiterating that the northeastern state remains an "indelible and integral part" of the country. Addressing a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that external assertions cannot alter territorial realities.
"Arunachal Pradesh is an indelible and integral part of India, and this is a fact which is self-evident," Jaiswal said. "At the same time, let me also underline that nothing can change this indisputable reality." India Names 27 Arunachal Pradesh Locations in Response to China’s Renaming Move.
Map Standardization Sparks Controversy
The MEA’s statement comes in response to remarks from Beijing after India officially published updated Survey of India maps identifying 27 locations across Arunachal Pradesh using standardized Indian terminology. The initiative aims to enhance administrative accuracy and public geographical awareness.
Chinese foreign ministry officials subsequently termed India's standardization efforts "null and void," claiming jurisdiction over the territory, which Beijing routinely refers to as "Zangnan" or "South Tibet." Among the 27 sites formally mapped by New Delhi are several areas of historical and strategic significance, including Longju and Thag La—key sites associated with the 1959 and 1962 border conflicts—along with logistics hubs such as Jairampur.
Pattern of Cartographic Disputes
Beijing has repeatedly attempted to assert territorial claims over Arunachal Pradesh by unilaterally issuing its own lists of standardized Chinese names for places, mountains, and rivers in the region. ‘Arunachal Pradesh Was, Is, and Will Always Remain Integral Part of India’: New Delhi Rejects China Renaming Places in State; Calls It Preposterous.

India has consistently rejected these measures, characterizing China’s renaming drives as symbolic exercises that carry no legal or territorial validity. New Delhi maintains that assigning alternate names to established Indian territories does not change the physical or legal status of the land. The diplomatic exchange highlights ongoing friction along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where both nations continue to engage through diplomatic and military channels to manage border disputes and prevent escalation.
