Jadavpur, September 20: Union Minister Babul Supriyo schooled the Jadavpur University students on Thursday, asking them to behave decently like the former chief minister of West Bengal – Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. The BJP minister was roughed up by the students at the campus when he was at the university for a visit.  In the video shared by Supriyo, he can be heard arguing with the students to behave like Bhattacharya. In reply, one of the girl students said that they were Naxals and did not belong to CPIM. Babul Supriyo Heckled, Slapped, Punched: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar Rushes to Save BJP MP in Jadavpur University.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar blamed the Vice-Chancellor and state police administration for the incident. Dhankha said, “The issue of serious lapses by the Jadavpur University VC, including virtual abandonment of his obligations, and apparent failure of the State Police Administration in attending to the situations appropriately and inadequate security arrangements for the Governor/Chancellor during his visit are receiving his attention for forward steps.”

He also slammed the Trinamool Congress for alleging that the governor had not taken the state government into confidence before visiting the university. He stated, “It is unfortunate that Secy General of the All India Trinamool Congress, through a press release yesterday, has stated that Guv didn't inform Govt and has not taken govt into confidence before making visiting Jadavpur University. The stand is factually incorrect.” TMC Slams Guv over Visit to Jadavpur University.

In an unprecedented incident, Supriyo was heckled, slapped, punched and detained for hours by radical Left students on September 19. A large number of students holding red flags crowded around Supriyo. Dhankhar had to rush to rescue the Union minister. Meanwhile, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists vandalised and set fire to the union room.
